Discover the Best Times to Visit Theme Parks with Young Children

Updated: Aug 4
Understanding Your Family's Needs
The short answer: Late January through early March and the weeks right after Thanksgiving through mid-December are the sweet spots for families with kids under 6. Cooler weather, manageable crowds, and (in December) the parks at their most magical.
Now the longer answer, because "it depends" is doing a lot of work here.
What Matters More with Littles (In Order)
1. Heat Beats Crowds. A crowded 75-degree day is easier with a toddler than an empty 95-degree one. Florida summer heat is brutal on little bodies — and on the parent pushing the stroller. If your kids are under 5, I'd take January crowds over July heat every single time.
2. Park Hours Matter Less Than You Think. Everyone chases the longest park hours. But if your crew is done by 1 p.m. anyway, extended evening hours are wasted on you. Shorter off-season hours? You won't even notice.
3. School Schedules Don't Apply to You Yet. This is the superpower of traveling with pre-school kids. You can go mid-week in late January when everyone else is stuck at home. Use this window — it closes fast once kindergarten starts.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
January – Early March: My top pick. Cool mornings, low-to-moderate crowds (dodge marathon weekend and Presidents Day week), and comfortable stroller weather. Pack layers — mornings can be genuinely chilly.
Mid-March – April: Spring break. Beautiful weather, brutal crowds. If this is your only window, it’s workable with a plan, but it wouldn’t be my first choice with littles.
May: Underrated. Warm but not deadly yet, crowds thin out after Easter. A solid pick.
June – August: Hot, stormy, crowded, and it’s hurricane season. Daily afternoon thunderstorms are almost guaranteed. If summer is your only option, it can be done — early mornings, midday pool breaks, and lots of indoor attractions — but know what you're signing up for.
September: The crowd-calendar darling. Lowest crowds of the year. But it's still peak heat and peak hurricane season. I'd rather see families here in early December than gamble on September.
October – Early November: Nice weather returning, but crowds have crept up in recent years thanks to Halloween events and fall breaks. Good, not great.
Late November – Mid-December: Magic. The Christmas decorations, the cooler air, and if you go the week or two after Thanksgiving, crowds are surprisingly reasonable. If your kids are old enough to be into the holidays, this is the trip they'll talk about.
Christmas – New Year's: The most crowded, most expensive week of the entire year. I love my clients too much to send them then with a toddler.
The Bottom Line
For families with kids under 6: aim for late January to early March or the first two weeks of December. Skip summer if you possibly can. And remember — the "best" time is ultimately the one that works for your family's real life.

Planning Your Magical Vacation
When planning your trip, consider the unique needs of your family. Each child is different, and understanding their limits will help you create the most enjoyable experience. Remember to prioritize comfort and flexibility.
Packing Essentials: Don’t forget sunscreen, hats, and plenty of snacks. Little ones can get cranky when they’re hungry or overheated. A well-stocked backpack can save the day!
Rest Time: Incorporate downtime into your schedule. A little nap or quiet time can rejuvenate everyone and make the park experience much more enjoyable.
Stay Hydrated: Florida can be hot, especially during the summer months. Keep water bottles handy and encourage your kids to drink regularly.
Have Fun! Above all, remember to enjoy the moments. These trips create lasting memories. Embrace the chaos and laughter that comes with traveling with little ones.
With these tips in mind, you’re well on your way to planning a magical vacation that your family will cherish forever!
